Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Retreat

Date: 10-11 July 2024

Time: 9.30am – 4pm

Location: Durham University

Please note that this event is only open to Durham University staff.

Do you struggle to find time to focus on your Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)?

Would you like some dedicated headspace to be able to think in depth about innovating your teaching practice and to have support to get your ideas moving?

Would you like to spend time with like-minded others who are keen to be innovative in their teaching in Higher Education?

If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, then the SoTL retreat is for you.

Please note that you will need to already have an Inkpath account to register for the event. If you don’t already have an account, instructions for how to register for an Inkpath account can be found here. If you have any problems with registration, please contact dcad.workshops@durham.ac.uk

The SoTL retreat is two-days of time dedicated to you and your scholarship. There will be structured sessions to help you do your best thinking, workshops to get your ideas on paper and wellbeing sessions to help with maintaining balance in hectic schedules.

All we ask is that you come with initial ideas you would like to explore for your scholarship of teaching and learning and that you are able to commit to attending both days of the retreat.

By the end of the retreat, you will have had the opportunity to:

  • think in depth and identify what aspect of your teaching and learning you would like to explore.
  • develop your understanding of what a Theory of Change model and SMART impact aims are.
  • apply your knowledge to develop SMART impact aims for what you would like to explore.
  • draft a scholarship plan and compile information ready for an ethics application submission.
  • consider your wellbeing and prepare for how to continue with SoTL beyond the retreat.

Timing: Both days will run from 9.30am – 4 pm

Please note that this is event is only open to Durham University staff.
