SoTL Retreat April 2025

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) retreat
3rd and 4th April 2025 (we ask that participants attend both days)
9.30am – 3.15pm (Van Mildert College)
Please note that the retreat is only open to Durham University staff.
Are you struggling to find time to get started on a scholarship of teaching and learning project? Would you like some headspace to be able to really think through your ideas and put together plans? Would you like to spend time with like-minded colleagues who are also keen to look in more depth at learning and teaching?
If you answered “yes” to some or all of the questions above, why not come along to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) retreat, where there will be time and space to dedicate to thinking about, designing and developing your plans for a SoTL project.
Aims for the retreat
The aims for the retreat are to give you time, space and support to have:
- thought in depth and identified what aspect of your teaching and learning you would like to explore for your scholarship of teaching and learning project.
- developed your understanding of Theory of Change and what SMART impact aims are.
- applied your knowledge to develop SMART impact aims for what you would like to explore.
- developed an understanding of archetypes in teaching and learning.
- considered how archetypes could apply to your own practice to support your wellbeing.
- drafted a research plan ready for to submit your ethics application.
- compiled information ready to submit ethics application.
- considered your wellbeing and prepared for how to continue with SoTL beyond the retreat.
Sessions run from 9.30am to 3.15pm on 3rd and 4th April in Van Mildert College.
We ask that participants attend both days.
