Getting better thinking and communication in student group work – Developing Thinking Environments in HE

In person workshop

1pm – 3.30pm, Tuesday 16 July 2024, Teaching and Learning Centre, Durham University

Open to all

This workshop will introduce participants to the Thinking Environment and how this can be used to support students to think more deeply, especially within group work.

The Thinking Environment uses three core principles of Attention, Equality and Ease, with the aim of enabling everyone within a group to do their best thinking.

We will model and practice using the Thinking Environment approach within the workshop so that participants can experience using the approach themselves. There will also be time for participants to consider practicalities for how to embed the approach within their teaching and how to empower their students to utilise the Thinking Environment approach within group work.

The aim is for participants to leave the workshop feeling comfortable to trial the approach in their teaching with their students. Ongoing support will be available after the workshop to support participants implementing the technique within their teaching.
